Macy Gray Among LARS Guests

The Los Angeles Recording School continues to host speaker events on campus, giving students an opportunity to network with the industry’s top professionals. A few recent guests have included:

Macy Gray
Grammy award-winning recording artist Macy Gray and her engineer Jared Lee sat down with LARS students to share their industry success.

Gray and Lee both joined a LARS class in one of the campus’ Digidesign ICON studios for a Q&A session. During the discussion, Macy shared what she looks for in a good engineer.

“As an artist you want an engineer that is quick and knows every little bit of the board,” she said. “They are the quarterback of the session.”

Peter Stengaard
Engineer/Mixer Peter Stengaard recently spoke to a LARS class about his experience in the music world.

Stengaard’s producing, engineering and mixing credits include The Pussycat Dolls, Ashanti and Billy Ray Cyrus. He has also collaborated with legendary Grammy-winning songwriter Diane Warren on a number of projects.

Oscar Ramirez
Recording Engineer, Producer and Mixer Oscar Ramirez was part of an insightful Q&A session at LARS.

Ramirez’s producing, engineering and mixing credits include Christina Aguilera, Busta Rhymes, Pink, Diddy, The Game and Chamillionaire.

As Christina Aguilera’s personal engineer, Ramirez continues to have a hand in developing chart-topping hits.

Maor Applebaum
Maor Applebaum
Maor Applebaum, who has worked as a Recording Mixing and Mastering Engineer for producer Sylvia Massey (Johnny Cash, The Red Hot Chili Peppers), stopped by LARS to share his industry insight with students.

In addition to his engineering work, Applebaum is also a freelance writer for Metal Hammer, the UK’s biggest rock magazine. He owns his own mastering studio in Los Angeles.

Andrew Garver
Recording Engineer and Clinical Professor of Music Industry, Andrew Garver recently made an appearance at LARS.

In his career, Garver participated in numerous projects with artists such as Black Sabbath, Soundgarden, Madonna, Sheryl Crow and Ice Cube. In 1998, he received a Grammy nomination for his mastering work on the Have a Nice Decade box set for Rhino Records. Andrew’s additional credits include projects for 3 Doors Down, Rage against the Machine, Korn and Ringo Starr.
